Congress leader Raja Warring’s direct links with Sukhwinder Kalkatta murder accused Dippy Bawa; AAP releases photographs

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab on Monday held a press conference in Chandigarh, exposing the political conspiracy and misinformation being spread by the Congress over the tragic murder of Sukhwinder Singh Kalkatta, son of the former Sarpanch of village Sehna. AAP leaders Neel Garg and Baltej Pannu condemned the Congress leadership, especially former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, for attempting to exploit a family’s tragedy for political gain instead of standing with the truth.
AAP leader Neel Garg expressed deep sorrow over the killing of young Sukhwinder Singh Kalkatta, but said what was even more painful was the shameful attempt by some political leaders to create a false narrative for political mileage.
“For the past two days, some leaders have tried to create chaos in Punjab, questioning the law and order situation, and defaming the government, all to bake their political bread on someone’s tragedy. This is not politics; this is intellectual bankruptcy,” Garg said.
He lauded the Punjab Police for its swift and professional investigation, adding that the DIG of Punjab Police, Kuldeep Singh Chahal, clearly stated in his press conference that the accused, Gurdeep Singh alias Dippy Bawa, was arrested within 24 hours, the murder weapon and vehicle were recovered, and that the motive was a personal and political rivalry, not any law and order failure.
Garg also exposed the lies spread by opposition leaders claiming that the victim was killed because his weapon had been confiscated by the government.
“The police clarified that Sukhwinder Singh took an NOC to sell his weapon and his firearm license was valid until 2029. To say the Punjab government took away his weapon is a blatant lie,” Garg added.
“Channi Sahib, who never entered this constituency after being rejected by the people in 2022, suddenly rushed there to hold a press conference over a dead body. Such politics brings shame to Punjab’s political culture.” Garg defended AAP MLA Labh Singh Ugoke, dismissing the allegations made against him as completely false and politically motivated.
AAP spokesperson Baltej Pannu exposed the Congress link of the main accused, Gurdeep Singh Dippy Bawa, showing photographs of Dippy Bawa with Punjab Congress President Raja Warring.
“Congress leaders falsely accused the ruling party, but the fact is, the accused Dippy Bawa is a known associate of Raja Warring. His pictures with the Punjab Congress chief are available publicly on social media. Such proximity is not accidental, ordinary people don’t sit beside the state party president,” said Pannu.
Explaining the background of the feud, Pannu said both Sukhwinder Singh Kalkatta and Dippy Bawa belonged to the same village and had personal and political enmity dating back to the 2018 Sarpanch elections, when Dippy Bawa’s wife contested against Sukhwinder’s mother and lost. Disputes over panchayat property, tree cutting, and village affairs further deepened their rivalry, which ultimately led to this tragic incident.
“This is a classic example of how long-standing village-level political rivalries can turn deadly. But to twist it into a law and order issue or blame the AAP government is dishonest,” Pannu said.
He further added that such feuds have been seen across Punjab for decades, and that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has always urged villagers to elect their Sarpanch based on merit and community interest, not party affiliation.
“When similar tragedies occurred in village where Congress-backed candidates lost to AAP and then murdered the winner, we never politicised those deaths. But Channi Sahib rushed to the crime scene to hold press conferences and score points. This ‘politics over dead bodies’ has deeply harmed Punjab.”
AAP leaders demanded that Punjab Congress President Raja Warring and Charanjit Singh Channi must publicly clarify their relationship with accused Gurdeep Singh Dippy Bawa and explain why Congress is still doing politics over dead bodies instead of standing with the people. “The Congress should stop misleading the people of Punjab and stop trying to malign the AAP government for a murder clearly rooted in personal rivalry and village-level politics,” the leaders said.
AAP leaders reiterated their faith in the Punjab Police and assured that the government will ensure a fair, transparent, and speedy investigation so that the justice is delivered on time.“The Mann Government has always stood for peace, justice, and transparency. Those trying to exploit grief for politics must introspect,” said Garg.
