Cross-Border Heroin Smuggling Module Busted, 10 Kg Heroin Worth ₹50 Crore Seized, 8 Arrested

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu) - In a major crackdown against cross-border drug smuggling in Punjab, Amritsar Commissionerate Police and Counter Intelligence have busted a well-organised heroin smuggling gang directly linked to Pakistan-based smugglers and recovered 10 kg heroin worth more than Rs 50 crore from them.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday that the police arrested eight smugglers including a juvenile in two separate cases and recovered ten kilograms and one hundred grams of heroin from them. Its price in the international market is said to be around 50 crore rupees.
The DGP said the prime accused Sarabjeet alias Joban, who is active from a village in the border area, is in direct contact with notorious smuggler Rana across the border. He has been arrested along with a juvenile and one kg heroin has been recovered from them. After interrogating him, two more smugglers – Dharam Singh and Kulbir Singh – were arrested from Ajnala, from whom more than five kg heroin was recovered. Their two motorcycles have also been seized.
DGP informed that FIRs were registered under relevant sections of NDPS Act at Police Station Airport and Police Station Chheharta. He informed that in a major intelligence operation, Counter Intelligence – Amritsar busted a module of cross border heroin smuggling and arrested four key operatives directly linked to a Pakistan based smuggler. The accused had recovered a consignment of heroin from near Indo-Pak border at Attari and were intercepted on their way to deliver the same. Four kg heroin was recovered from them. A case is being registered in this regard and further investigation is underway to unearth the entire network including forward and backward linkages. He said that Punjab Police is committed to eliminate the cross border drug syndicate and save Punjab from the grip of narco-terrorism.
