Early morning encounter in Chandigarh, gunfight between police and Lawrence gang members; three arrested

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): An early morning encounter took place in Chandigarh on Wednesday between police and gangsters, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, two gangsters were injured by bullets and later taken to hospital for treatment. Police said their condition is being closely monitored.
According to officials, the injured gangsters are the same suspects involved in a recent firing incident at a chemist shop in Sector 32, Chandigarh. After that attack, police had formed special teams and launched a search operation to trace the accused.
Based on a tip-off, police received information that the suspects were hiding in the area while travelling in a taxi. Acting swiftly, Chandigarh Police cordoned off the forest area behind the grain market in Sector 39. When officers tried to stop the suspicious vehicle, the gangsters opened fire.
Police retaliated, resulting in cross-firing from both sides. During the exchange, two gangsters sustained gunshot injuries. Three accused were arrested in connection with the encounter.
Police sources said the suspects are linked to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has been involved in several criminal cases and has been under police surveillance for a long time. Interrogation of the injured accused is underway to gather information about other gang members.
The area has been sealed, and a search operation is continuing to track down any remaining suspects. Police officials said strict action will continue against criminals to maintain law and order in the city. Residents have been urged to remain calm as security has been tightened in the area.
