Farmers in Haryana are still awaiting flood relief; they have not yet received compensation: Anurag Dhanda

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party's National Media Incharge Anurag Dhanda issued a statement on Sunday saying that Haryana's farmers are today suffering between the biggest disaster in history and the biggest negligence of the government. Today, they are suffering from poverty and bureaucracy due to the BJP's "unique disaster." The 2025 floods destroyed 3.1 million acres of crops belonging to 5.37 lakh farmers, but Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's government provided neither relief nor compensation, nor conducted a ground investigation. They simply shied away from responsibility by creating a portal drama.

The BJP government had promised compensation by November 30th. December has arrived, but not a single penny has reached the farmers' accounts. The survey work is incomplete in eight districts, and files worth ₹50-60 crore are stuck in Fatehabad, the worst-affected area. If this is not a betrayal of the farmers, then what is it?

In contrast, the AAP government in Punjab transferred compensation of ₹20,000 per acre directly into farmers' accounts in just 30 days, covering 2,508 villages and 3.5 lakh acres. If the intention is clear, relief reaches them on time. The BJP government in Haryana lacks this intention, and farmers are paying the price.

He said that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has further aggravated farmers' wounds by announcing a "joke" compensation of ₹15,000 per acre, even though the losses are far greater. But the Chief Minister is more interested in driving a Tesla than in helping farmers. This insensitivity is worrying.

Anurag Dhanda said that Haryana farmers are tired of climbing the stairs of government offices. The deception on MSP, along with the black marketing of fertilizers, has already broken their backs. A bag of fertilizer worth ₹1,350 is being sold for ₹2,000, but the government is turning a blind eye. The state's farmers are asking the government today: Is opening a portal the only way to provide relief? Will the value of farmers' hard work be limited to announcements? Will flood relief funds ever reach farmers' accounts or remain confined to files?

Anurag Dhanda said that the plight of farmers in Haryana is the result of the government's failure to address their concerns: intentions, policies, and leadership. If the Chief Minister doesn't understand how to support farmers during a crisis, it's best to learn from the AAP government in Punjab.
