Arms Smuggling from Pakistan Foiled Again in Punjab Amid Floods; Two Arrested in Fazilka

Fazilka (The Uttam Hindu): Taking advantage of the flood situation in Punjab, arms smuggling from Pakistan has become an alarming concern. In a major breakthrough, Fazilka Police successfully foiled yet another attempt at cross-border weapons smuggling for the second consecutive day. On Friday, during a routine patrol near the village of Theh Kalandar, the CIA staff arrested two individuals and recovered 16 pistols, 38 magazines, and 1,847 live cartridges from their possession. This operation followed a similar seizure just a day earlier, on Thursday, when police confiscated 27 pistols.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Jhok Dipulana village, and Sona Singh from Mahatam Nagar. According to police officials, both accused were attempting to smuggle illegal weapons from Pakistan, taking advantage of the disruption caused by ongoing floods in the region.
This marks the second large seizure in just two days, raising serious concerns among security agencies. Authorities stated that a detailed interrogation of the accused is underway to determine the intended recipients of the weapons, whether they were meant for criminal gangs or other individuals, and if the accused have been involved in similar smuggling operations in the past.
