Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has landed in serious trouble after an FIR was registered against him for allegedly making caste-based remarks about former Union Home Minister Boota Singh. The complaint was filed by Boota Singh’s son, Sarbjot Singh Sidhu, leading to a major political stir in the state.

According to the police, the FIR has been registered under Sections 353 and 196 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 2023, along with Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. These sections deal with intentional insults or intimidation intended to humiliate members of the SC/ST community.

The controversy began when a video clip surfaced online in which Raja Warring allegedly made derogatory remarks while referring to the late Boota Singh. The comments quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism from several Dalit and political organizations.

Reacting to the development, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has also taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and issued a notice to Raja Warring, seeking an explanation over his alleged casteist statements.

This case has triggered sharp political reactions across Punjab. Leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have condemned Warring’s remarks, demanding strict legal action. On the other hand, Congress insiders claim that Warring’s statement was “misinterpreted and taken out of context.”

The FIR has reignited the debate on caste-based politics and social sensitivity in Punjab’s political discourse. With the by-elections and upcoming civic polls in sight, this controversy could have significant political repercussions for the Congress party in the state.
