Firing at Punjab kabaddi match leaves tournament promoter shot; Mankirt Aulakh was to attend

Mohali (The Uttam Hindu): Panic spread on the sports ground in Mohali, Punjab on Monday when firing took place in broad daylight during a Kabaddi tournament being held in Sector-82 of Sohana. In the middle of the match, unknown assailants riding a Bolero started firing indiscriminately. In this attack, a youth promoting the tournament was shot and got seriously injured. The injured was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. The seriousness of the incident has increased further because famous Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh was also going to attend the event as the chief guest.
According to eyewitnesses, the excitement of the match was at its peak when suddenly, loud sounds resembling firecrackers were heard. Initially, the spectators thought it was fireworks being burst to celebrate a team's scoring. However, when bullets whizzed past the spectators' heads, panic broke out in the arena. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fired approximately six rounds and fled after committing the crime. Fortunately, no spectators were hit, but the promoter was targeted.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Sohana police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. Police have begun examining CCTV footage from the area around the scene to identify the suspects in the Bolero. Police are trying to determine whether the attack stemmed from a past rivalry or a gang war. Currently, the area is tense, and police have increased security.
