Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): To improve flight connectivity for residents of Punjab, especially the Doaba region, senior BJP leader and former MP Sushil Rinku met Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi. During the meeting, Rinku requested the minister to start new flights from Adampur Airport and also submitted a formal memorandum outlining these demands. He stated that the minister assured him that positive action on these requests would be taken soon.

The former MP explained that he requested the launch of new flights from Jalandhar’s Adampur Airport and suggested that airlines be directed to operate these routes. He highlighted that under the Central Government’s UDAN scheme, several routes from Adampur Airport had already been finalized. Flights on the Adampur-Hindon and Adampur-Nanded Sahib routes have commenced, providing significant convenience to passengers.

Rinku further mentioned that a commercial flight from Adampur to Mumbai had already been launched and has been highly successful. He requested the minister to start a direct commercial flight from Adampur to Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) and also a flight from Adampur to Varanasi.

Explaining the importance of Varanasi, Rinku said it is the birthplace of Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj, houses the Kabir Chaura Math, and is home to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, attracting daily pilgrim traffic. Moreover, Varanasi is a major hub for the textile industry, particularly sarees and suits, which sees frequent business travel from Jalandhar and the Doaba region. Direct flights from Adampur to Varanasi, he said, would greatly benefit traders and travelers.

Rinku also requested that Adampur Airport be equipped with connecting flight facilities. Specifically, he suggested that the Srinagar-Delhi flight be connected via Adampur, creating a new route: Srinagar-Adampur-Delhi, thereby improving connectivity for the region.

Additionally, he requested the launch of a direct flight from Adampur to Jaipur. A Star Airlines flight on this route was planned earlier but could not be started. Rinku suggested either initiating the flight with the same airline or, if not possible, engaging another airline to operate this route to connect Jalandhar directly with Jaipur.

The Civil Aviation Minister reportedly assured Rinku that his requests would be given serious consideration and that positive results are expected soon.
