Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): In a powerful testament to the success of the AAP Government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, former drug addicts shared their deeply personal journeys of overcoming addiction and reintegrating into society. During a special event held under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, these individuals expressed their gratitude towards the government for its decisive and compassionate approach to tackling Punjab’s drug menace.

A former addict, who battled addiction for 12 years, credited the state government’s stringent measures against drugs for helping him escape this curse. He applauded Chief Minister Mann’s grassroots-level war on drugs and emphasized the importance of treating addicts as patients. "The AAP government’s efforts have made treatment accessible, and addicts like me are getting better. I urge the youth to stay away from drugs and not destroy their future," he said.

Another recovered addict shared a heart-wrenching account of his struggle with addiction. He recounted how he lost his father, stole money from his father’s dead body to buy drugs, sold his land, and his wife left him. "When I returned from the de-addiction center, I didn’t even have money for my pregnant wife’s scans. Society treats women as a solution to treat their drug-addict sons, which is unfair. However, the Mann government’s actions are a beacon of hope for addicts like me," he said, praising the government’s initiatives to curb the drug problem.

A third speaker, who successfully overcame addiction, highlighted the comprehensive strategy of the Mann government. "The government has fully equipped de-addiction centers and ensured Punjab Police is breaking supply chains and arresting drug peddlers. I know dozens of people who have left drugs during this campaign. Previous governments failed Punjab in addressing drugs, but the Mann government has adopted an extensive and holistic approach to deal with this menace," he said, urging other victims of drugs to seek help through the campaign and leave their misery behind.

Another individual spoke of the possibility of recovery and hope, sharing how he sought help at a government-run de-addiction center after losing his father and disappointing his mother badly. "My father’s death motivated me to change. I received complete care at the de-addiction center, and today, I am happily living with my family. Recovery is possible. Don’t lose hope; the Mann government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign is your way out. The government is here to help; you just need to ask for it," he said.

These heartfelt stories reflect the transformative impact of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, which combines strict action against drug suppliers with compassionate care for addicts. The campaign has become a beacon of hope for Punjab and the families of drug addicts, signaling a future free from the grip of addiction and drug misery.
