From training to transformation: How the Punjab Government is reshaping classrooms in the state

Punjab (The Uttam Hindu): Mann stated that 118 Schools of Eminence have been established across the state. An amount of Rs 231.74 crore has been spent on developing these institutions so far, with the aim of transforming the quality of public education in Punjab.
Emphasising quality education as the government's core objective, the Chief Minister said that special attention is being given to teacher training. The strategy includes comprehensive training programmes, technology-driven learning, and competency-based education modules to better equip teachers for modern classrooms.
To further strengthen career guidance for students, the Punjab government has collaborated with 11T Madras—Pravartak to launch a free online training programme. Through this initiative, more than 5,000 teachers are being trained to serve as career mentors for students.
Highlighting global exposure for educators, CM Mann said that 234 principals and education officers have undergone world-class training in Singapore. Additionally, 152 head teachers received advanced leadership coaching at 11M Ahmedabad, while 144 primary teachers completed specialised training at Turku University in Finland.
The Chief Minister added that to allow teachers to concentrate on teaching rather than administrative work, the government has appointed 1,920 campus managers. He reiterated that the Education Revolution, launched in 2022, was designed to help Punjab's children reach new heights and fulfil their aspirations.
Recognising teachers as the backbone of society, CM Mann said that honouring educators is a way of acknowledging their role as nation builders. He explained that the traditional term "Guru" originates from the Sanskrit words "Gu" (darkness) and "Ru" (remover), meaning one who removes darkness. In essence, a teacher's responsibility is to enlighten students' minds with the light of knowledge.
Reiterating details of the Schools of Eminence, the Chief Minister said that students enrolled in these schools are provided free uniforms, bus services for girls, and free coaching for competitive examinations, including Armed Forces exams, NEET, JEE, CLAT, and NIFT.
Sharing student achievements, CM Mann revealed that 265 students from Schools of Eminence and other government schools qualified for JEE Mains, 44 students cleared JEE Advanced, and 848 students successfully qualified for NEET, showcasing the impact of the government's education initiatives.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these Schools of Eminence would become "temples of the modern era," illuminating the future of thousands of students. He noted that the success of this model is evident as students from private schools are now seeking admission to these government-run institutions.
The CM further stated that the introduction of Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) has received an overwhelming response from parents. He said that Punjab currently has 19,200 government schools, and nearly 25 lakh parents have actively participated in PTMs, strengthening collaboration between schools and families.
