Tarn Taran(The Uttam Hindu): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab is steadfastly working to uphold its commitment to the upliftment of the weaker and underprivileged sections of society. In this direction, under the guidance of Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr. Baljit Kaur, crores of rupees have been released in Tarn Taran district for the welfare of poor families, Scheduled Caste (SC) and Backward Class (BC) students, as well as for the construction of community buildings.

₹12.96 Crore Released Under the ‘Ashirwad’ Scheme

Providing a major relief to poor families for the marriage of their daughters, Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that under the Ashirwad Scheme during the financial year 2024-25, a total of 2,542 eligible applicants in Tarn Taran have been given financial assistance. Each beneficiary has been granted ₹51,000, amounting to a total of ₹12.96 crore. This reflects the AAP government’s firm commitment to social security and welfare.

Scholarships to 4,582 Students for Higher Education

To secure the future of Scheduled Caste and Backward Class students aspiring for higher education, significant steps have also been taken under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme. Cases of 4,582 students whose family income is less than ₹2.50 lakh per annum have been approved to help them continue their studies. Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the AAP government believes education is every child’s right, and this scheme will help their dreams take flight.

₹5.93 Crore Allocated for Dr. Ambedkar Bhawan

In another significant move toward social justice and community empowerment, an amount of ₹5.93 crore has been released for the construction of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bhawan in Tarn Taran district. This building will serve as an important community center dedicated to the welfare and interests of people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and minority communities.

Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that the AAP government is committed to following the principles of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and to moving forward by including every section of society. She said that the Punjab government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the welfare of the poor and underprivileged and will make sure that the benefits of all welfare schemes reach every community and every person.
