Gate Collapse at Madhopur Headworks: 3 Irrigation Department Officials Suspended

Pathankot (The Uttam Hindu) : Floods in Punjab caused severe devastation. During this flood, the gates of Madhopur Headworks were broken, which worsened the flood situation. In this regard, the Irrigation Department has suspended Executive Engineer Nitin Sood, Deputy Officer Arun Kumar and JE Sachin Thakur. The Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department has issued orders for their suspension with immediate effect. It is worth noting that yesterday a central team also visited the Headworks. It is worth noting that an employee also lost his life due to the breaking of the Headworks gate.

Sources suggest the department may hold other officials responsible for this. However, the letter issued by the Principal Secretary does not mention this. In fact, on August 27th, the sudden release of water from the Ranjit Sagar Dam on the Ravi River in Madhopur caused panic. Sixty-five employees and officials attempting to control the water were trapped when four gates were washed away.
