Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Hardev Singh Ubha, State Press Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab, said that the Punjab government is continuously doing injustice to the freedom fighters who were imprisoned during the Emergency in the country. He said that these fighters, who sacrificed for the protection of democracy during the Emergency have not yet received their due respect and pension.

Ubha informed that pension schemes for Emergency freedom fighters are implemented in several states including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh but this matter has always been ignored in Punjab. He said that the freedom fighters who suffered hardships in jails for years are still forced to wander from door to door in their old age.

BJP leader Hardev Ubha said that the Bhagwant Mann government should also provide a pension of Rs. 30,000 per month, like the BJP governments of Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Hardev Singh Ubha said that Emergency freedom fighters are being given pensions ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 30,000 in various states, but the Punjab government has not taken any concrete steps in this regard. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of only making promises, while nothing has been done at the ground level.

Hardev Singh Ubha demanded that the Punjab government immediately implement a pension scheme for the Emergency freedom fighters and provide them with their due respect. He said that the BJP will continue to fight for the rights of the Emergency freedom fighters and will keep raising its voice until justice is served.
