Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Police have carried out a major operation in Amritsar, recovering heroin worth more than ₹200 crore along with weapons and explosives. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the drugs and arms were smuggled into India from Pakistan using drones. The massive seizure has created panic in the area.

According to police officials, more than 40 kilograms of heroin packed in black packets was dropped through a drone. Along with the narcotics, four hand grenades, one pistol and several live cartridges were also seized. The consignment was dropped near Othian village in Amritsar.

Late at night, a few youths arrived on a motorcycle to collect the packets. However, due to ongoing road construction work in the village, local residents and workers stopped them from moving ahead. Sensing suspicion, the youths panicked, abandoned the motorcycle at the spot and fled.

After locals alerted the police, a team immediately reached the site and conducted a thorough search of the area along with the abandoned motorcycle. During the search, a large quantity of heroin, weapons and explosives was recovered. Police have sealed the entire area and started a detailed investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the absconding accused.
