Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): The Crime Branch of the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police in Punjab arrested a drug smuggler on Friday and recovered more than two kilograms of opium from his possession. Police said the operation was carried out based on suspicion during routine checking in the city.

Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur stated that on Thursday, a Crime Branch team intercepted a man near a gurdwara/temple area on Guru Gobind Singh Avenue in Jalandhar. The accused was identified as Sahil alias Khatri, son of Anil Kumar, a resident of Arjan Nagar, Jalandhar. During a search, the police recovered 2 kilograms and 10 grams of opium from him.

Further investigation revealed that the accused is already involved in four criminal cases registered at different police stations. The police are continuing to interrogate him to identify both forward and backward links of the drug trafficking network. Officials said strict action will be taken against all those involved as part of the ongoing crackdown on narcotics smuggling in the region.
