Jalandhar(The Uttam Hindu): In a routine traffic enforcement drive near the Municipal Corporation office in Jalandhar, police carried out a surprise check on school buses at Shri Ram Chowk. The situation escalated when a school bus was flagged for multiple violations, including severe overloading of children.

Sub-Inspector Sukhjinder Singh, who led the operation, stated that the drive was part of a directive to ensure the safety of school-going children through regular checks of school transport vehicles. One bus was found to have 81 children crammed into a 51-seater, far exceeding capacity limits. Additionally, the bus had a motorcycle number plate, and the driver was not in uniform.

The driver, when questioned, claimed he had been working at the school for six months and was merely following orders. He appeared unaware of the regulatory violations. As a result, a traffic challan was issued on the spot, covering charges of overloading, improper number plate, missing seat belts, and driver misconduct.

Authorities emphasized that such checks will continue to ensure student safety and that schools must strictly adhere to transport regulations.
