Junior & Senior Punjab Badminton Championships Kick Off at Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium

Jalandhar(The Uttam Hindu): The Junior and Senior Punjab Badminton Championships commenced today at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium, Jalandhar, with great enthusiasm and participation from across the state. Over 350 players from 23 districts are competing in the event, showcasing the growing popularity of badminton in Punjab.

The championship was inaugurated by Sh. Sandeep Sharma (IPS), Joint Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, who emphasized the importance of sports in shaping youth and building character. “Sports are important because they promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and social skills. They build discipline, resilience and teamwork while also reducing stress. Engaging in sports can lead to better academic performance and a more constructive use of time,” he said.

Sharing details about the tournament, Sh. Ritin Khanna, Hony. Secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association (PBA), informed that the four-day championship will conclude on November 13. He added that the players will compete in 10 events, including singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories. The winners will go on to represent Punjab at the upcoming National Championships in Itanagar and Vijayawada.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony will be held on Thursday, where Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar will felicitate the winners. On this occasion, Asian Bronze Medalist Jagsher Khangura and Thailand Open Bronze Medalist Abhinav Thakur will also be honoured with a cash reward of Rs.21,000 each by the Punjab Badminton Association.
The District Badminton Association, Jalandhar has made special arrangements for food, snacks, and refreshments for players and coaches throughout the event.
Prominent attendees included Sh. Anil Bhatti, Sh.J K Gupta, Sh. Kusum Kaypee,Sh.Naresh Budhia and Sh. Dhiraj Sharma (Joint Secretary, PBA) who extended their best wishes to all participants for a successful championship.
