Congress loses stalwart: Lal Singh, former Punjab finance minister, passes away
A five-time MLA, he was known for his strong hold on Dakala and Sanour constituencies

Former Punjab Finance Minister, prominent Congress leader, and former President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), Lal Singh, has passed away. This news has sent a wave of deep grief through the political circles of Patiala and across Punjab, including among his supporters.
Lal Singh was considered one of the strongest and most experienced pillars of the Punjab Congress. He held several key positions during his long political career. Lal Singh was first elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 1977 on a Congress ticket from Dakala. He subsequently represented the Dakala constituency five times until 2012, and later, after delimitation, won the Sanour Assembly seat. He also served as the state's Finance Minister and was known for his strong hold on the area and his development work.
News of the former minister's passing is spreading rapidly on social media, where people are remembering their beloved leader with tearful eyes. Local residents and supporters of Patiala are paying tribute to him. The demise of Lal Singh is an irreparable loss not only for his family but for the entire Congress party and Punjab which can hardly be compensated.
