Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant breakthrough, the Ludhiana Police conducted a successful Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Talwandi village, resulting in the arrest of five notorious drug smugglers. The operation was carried out under the "Yudh Nashya Viruddh" campaign, aimed at curbing the drug menace in the region.

Key Highlights:

1. Arrests and Recovery: Five drug smugglers were apprehended, while three others remain at large. A substantial quantity of drugs was seized from the arrested individuals, although the exact amount has not been disclosed yet.

2. Previous Cases: The accused had 18 prior cases of drug smuggling registered against them and were out on bail. The police had been monitoring their activities closely.

3. Police Action: Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma led the operation, which was conducted secretly in the morning. The police had been keeping an eye on eight suspicious individuals, leading to the successful arrest of five smugglers.

Drug Smuggling Crackdown Statistics:

1. 467 FIRs Registered: In the past four months, the Ludhiana Police have registered 467 FIRs against drug smugglers.

2. 623 Smugglers Arrested: A total of 623 drug smugglers have been apprehended during this period.

3. 92% Cases: Drug smuggling cases account for 92% of the total cases registered in the district.

4. Drugs Recovered: The police have seized 20 kg of heroin, 15 kg of opium and 3 quintals of poppy husk in the past four months.

The Ludhiana Police are committed to tackling the drug menace in the region, with Commissioner Sharma emphasizing the importance of monitoring individuals out on bail and providing support to those struggling with addiction.
