Ex-ED Officer Drops Bombshell: Majithia Shielded Drug Lords, Took Kickbacks

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Startling revelations have surfaced from the Vigilance Bureau’s ongoing investigation, implicating Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in Punjab’s deep-rooted drug trade. Statements by former Enforcement Directorate (ED) Deputy Director Niranjan Singh have shed light on Majithia’s direct involvement in facilitating the drug mafia, exposing a corrupt nexus that has devastated the state’s youth.
Niranjan Singh’s deposition underscores Majithia’s role as a key enabler in the drug trade, using his political clout to shield and support notorious drug traffickers. According to Singh, Majithia personally intervened to mediate disputes among drug lords, including Jagjit Singh Chahal and Bittu Aulakh, who operated networks extending to Canada.
As per the revelations, drug traders Chahal and Aulakh had international clients and operated under political patronage. Majithia maintained close ties with Satpreet Singh Satta, providing him with state security and hosting him frequently. Majithia resolved disputes between drug traffickers, receiving large financial kickbacks in return.
Niranjan Singh stated that despite filing detailed reports on the drug and money laundering nexus with the Punjab and Haryana High Court and STF Punjab, action was stalled due to political interference by the then SAD-BJP government. "The STF recommended action based on my investigation, yet the previous governments turned a blind eye, protecting the powerful while Punjab’s youth suffered," Singh remarked.
Niranjan Singh disclosed that his efforts to investigate the drug trade were met with resistance from within the system. "I faced constant harassment for pursuing the truth, forcing me to tender my resignation in 2018, which the High Court later refused to accept," he revealed. He also accused senior officials of interfering in the investigation to protect key culprits, delaying justice and worsening Punjab’s drug crisis.
The people of Punjab deserve answers and accountability from those who allowed the drug mafia to thrive under political protection. As Niranjan Singh said, "If these culprits are not brought to justice, Punjab will continue to suffer, and its youth will remain at risk."
