Major Action by Ludhiana Police: Extortionist Who Came to Collect ₹10 Lakh Arrested After Encounter

Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): A late-night encounter took place between police and criminals in Ludhiana. Out of two accused who had arrived to collect an extortion amount of ₹10 lakh, one was injured in retaliatory police firing and arrested on the spot, while his accomplice managed to escape.
According to the police, a trap was laid at Samrala Chowk to nab the accused. When the criminals reached the spot on a black Splendor motorcycle without a number plate, police asked them to stop and surrender. Instead, the accused opened fire at the police team. In retaliation, police fired back, injuring one of the accused.
Inspector Gagandeep Singh, Station House Officer of Police Division No. 7, said the arrested accused has been identified as Rohin Masih, a resident of Taliyawal village in Batala, Gurdaspur district. He has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. During interrogation, Rohin revealed the identity of his absconding accomplice as Jain Masih, and police have intensified raids to arrest him.
Inspector Gagandeep Singh further said that the complainant, Sachin Verma, received a WhatsApp call from a foreign mobile number on December 12, 2025. The caller threatened to kill him if he failed to pay ₹10 lakh as extortion money. After receiving the complaint, police planned the operation and sent Sachin Verma to the spot with a saffron-coloured handbag as part of the trap.
Police recovered a weapon from the scene. The incident created panic in the area. Police are conducting a detailed investigation into the case and efforts are ongoing to arrest the absconding accused.
