Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Youth Akali Dal chief Bikram Singh Majithia has received a major relief. The Supreme Court has granted him bail in the highly controversial disproportionate assets case. Majithia's bail is being seen as a major political victory and a significant relief for the Akali Dal, which has been fighting a legal battle in this case for quite some time.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had tightened its grip on Majithia in this high-profile case. Acting on this, the Vigilance Bureau arrested him on June 25th. Majithia had been in judicial custody since his arrest. The Supreme Court's decision has now cleared the way for his release from jail, causing a wave of joy among his supporters.

The gravity of the case can be gauged from the fact that the Vigilance Bureau filed a massive charge sheet, nearly 40,000 pages long, against Bikram Singh Majithia in court. It made numerous claims regarding his assets and sources of income. After lengthy court proceedings and arguments, the Supreme Court of India finally granted him bail.
