Malvinder Singh Kang raises alarm over exploitation of Farmers through forced fertilizer bundling, urges nationwide crackdown

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang, has raised a strong demand for immediate national action against the exploitation of farmers through the forced bundling of costly “boosters” with essential fertilizers like DAP and Urea. Terming it a “betrayal of our Annadatas”, Kang said farmers are being coerced into purchasing unnecessary and expensive additives along with subsidized fertilizers, a malpractice that has come to light in Roopnagar district of Punjab.
Kang has formally written to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers, urging the establishment of a nationwide mechanism to dismantle this exploitative system. In his letter, he called for strict digital oversight of fertilizer transactions, compulsory unbundling of subsidized products and stringent penalties including license suspension and blacklisting for offenders.
“This is not trade, it’s betrayal. Our farmers, the soul of India’s economy, are being exploited in broad daylight,” Kang stated. He revealed that distributors in Roopnagar are forcing farmers to buy costly boosters such as Calcium Nitrate, Polyhalite, Bio Potash, and Muriate of Potash along with essential fertilizers, inflating input costs and pushing farmers into distress.
Commending the Punjab Police’s swift action in filing FIRs and arresting key perpetrators, Kang emphasized that the problem extends far beyond Punjab and reflects a “national malaise that must be rooted out through parliamentary intervention and reform.”
He urged the Government of India to act decisively through the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, saying, “Our farmers deserve protection from such rapacious practices. It’s time to restore integrity to our fertilizer supply chain and uphold our agrarian equity.”
