Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Since the Mann government assumed power in Punjab, criminal elements have been facing a setback. While criminal incidents are declining, the number of gangsters in society is decreasing and the number of gangsters in prisons is increasing. This is due to the Anti-Gangster Task Force established by the Mann government, which has completely curbed gangsters. The Mann government is adopting a zero-tolerance policy against gangsterism. This is evident from the recent suspension of an SSP in Amritsar.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has clearly stated that no negligence will be tolerated in action against gangsters, and action is being taken against officers who fail to comply. Over the past year, the AGTF has launched several major operations targeting notorious gangsters and their associates in various districts of Punjab. These operations have resulted in the arrest of several wanted criminals, the seizure of illegal weapons, and the exposure of extortion gangs operating in urban and rural areas.

The AGTF's efforts are also focused on breaking the recruitment chain into criminal networks. Gangs have long targeted vulnerable youth, luring them with the promise of quick money and influence. In collaboration with the Education and Community Services departments, the Task Force has launched awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to educate youth about the consequences of joining gangs. Furthermore, rehabilitation programs have been initiated to provide alternatives to those seeking to exit criminal life. These include skills training, job placement assistance, and psychological counseling, marking a shift from a purely punitive approach to a reform-oriented one. (Advertorial)
