Moga sets an example in stubble management

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): Moga district has emerged as a strong example of change in stubble management. Under the leadership of the Mann government, Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia and Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Gandhi visited fields and personally participated in plowing operations with farmers after paddy harvesting. They rode tractors and demonstrated how stubble can be managed without burning. The aim was to send a clear message that stubble burning is not a necessity and that solutions are possible through cooperation between farmers and the administration.
The Mann government has consistently shown that governance involves working directly with people. From improving education and health services to taking steps for environmental protection, the administration has emphasized a people-centric approach. The efforts in Moga further highlight the belief that if farmers are Punjab’s strength, the environment is its lifeline.
Stubble burning causes heavy smog, which leads to pollution and increases the risk of road accidents. Every year, thousands of accidents are reported in North India due to poor visibility caused by stubble smoke. Moga’s initiative aims to reduce such incidents by encouraging farmers to adopt safer methods of stubble disposal. Cleaner air and safer roads are among the key expected outcomes.
The administration in Moga has shown that when farmers, officers, and the government work together, challenges can be addressed effectively. The district’s approach reflects the Mann government's broader vision of promoting sustainable agriculture, crop diversification, and environmental protection.
Officials Demonstrate Administrative Responsibility
Officials visiting the fields and working alongside farmers has sent a strong message of trust and cooperation. This gesture reassured farmers that the administration is not limited to issuing instructions but is ready to support them on the ground. The initiative highlighted that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility.
Officials visited several villages in the Badha Purana block and plowed harvested fields to demonstrate stubble management techniques. DC Sagar Setia said that the administration is encouraging farmers to adopt scientific and environmentally friendly methods of managing paddy residue. He added, “We are ensuring easy access to eco-friendly agricultural machinery so that no farmer burns stubble due to lack of equipment.”
SSP Ajay Gandhi said that the police department is working closely with the civil administration to curb stubble burning incidents and ensure effective enforcement of relevant regulations.
