Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): The Punjab State Mini Ranking Tournament got off to a spirited start at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium, Jalandhar. The event was inaugurated by Aam Aadmi Party Member of Parliament from Hoshiarpur, Dr. Rajkumar Chabbewal, who underlined the importance of sports in a child’s life.

“Sports at a young age play a vital role in shaping overall growth. They keep the body fit and energetic while instilling discipline, focus and time management. Sports also build confidence and teach how to handle both success and failure,” said Dr. Chabbewal. He praised the Jalandhar Badminton Association for its dedicated efforts in uplifting badminton in Punjab and expressed admiration for the world-class facilities at the Hansraj Badminton Stadium.


On the occasion Amritsar’s Nilesh Seth, who recently clinched the North Zone Badminton Championship at Una, was specially honoured with a cash award of Rs.11,000. The function was also graced by Sh. Harnoor Singh Mann, AAP Halka Incharge Phagwara, as the Guest of Honour.

Providing details of the tournament, Punjab Badminton Association Secretary, Sh. Ritin Khanna informed that nearly 300 players from 23 districts are competing in eight different events under the U-11 and U-13 categories. Over the next three days 250 matches will be played with the finals scheduled for September 23. Winners will not only receive cash awards and attractive prizes but will also earn the honour of representing Punjab at the National Championships in November.


Senior office-bearers of the Punjab Badminton Association, including Rakesh Khanna, Vinay Vohra, Jatinder Sandhu,Punjab Masih, Harpreet Singh,Dhiraj Sharma, Ashok Kumar and Sachin Ratti were present at the inauguration ceremony.
