Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia did not get any relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the ongoing disproportionate assets (DA) case. The court has listed the matter for further hearing on Friday.

Majithia was arrested on June 25 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly amassing assets worth several hundred crores far beyond his known sources of income. The case is registered under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, based on evidence reportedly linking him to unaccounted investments and benami properties.

During Thursday’s hearing, the High Court refused to stay his remand or grant interim relief. The bench observed that the petition filed by Majithia’s counsel was not properly formatted to challenge his custody order. The court has now asked the state to file its reply and fixed the matter for the next hearing.

The Vigilance Bureau has accused Majithia of owning properties and businesses through shell companies and close associates. Investigators allege the assets were built using black money generated from illegal activities, including alleged links to a past drug trade probe.

Majithia, however, has strongly denied all allegations, calling the case politically motivated. He claims the AAP government is misusing state agencies to target opposition leaders.

The High Court’s refusal to grant relief is seen as a setback for the Akali leader, who remains in custody as the investigation continues. The next hearing is expected to decide whether the court will consider his plea for bail or continued remand.
