Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia, arrested in a ₹540 crore disproportionate assets case, did not get any immediate relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court today. The court was informed that Majithia had been given a fresh remand by the Mohali court, but the written order is still awaited. The High Court has now scheduled the next hearing for tomorrow.

Majithia has challenged his arrest calling it illegal and politically motivated. His petition demands cancellation of the remand claiming that the case is based on an old report which was earlier rejected by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the Vigilance Bureau told the Mohali court that new facts have emerged and Majithia needs to be taken to Gorakhpur for further investigation. The court has granted a four-day remand.

During the investigation, Vigilance has claimed recovery of several electronic devices and documents from Majithia’s residence. Key figures including former DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay and ex-ED deputy director Niranjan Singh have recorded their statements linking Majithia to earlier drug-related probes. Allegations also include undeclared properties in Shimla, Delhi, Jalandhar and Gorakhpur.
