Jaipur(The Uttam Hindu): The 'Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI)'—an ambitious initiative of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India—has been honored with the Gold Award at the National e-Governance Awards 2026. This honor was conferred during the 29th National Conference on e-Governance held in Jaipur. With this achievement, India's largest rural governance data platform has gained significant national recognition.
The hard work and visionary leadership of Vipul Ujwal, an IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, are considered pivotal to this achievement. Developed and implemented under his guidance, the Panchayat Advancement Index has charted a new course for the scientific assessment of Panchayat performance and data-driven governance across the country.
The Panchayat Advancement Index is a key flagship initiative of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Its objective is to conduct a comprehensive and transparent assessment of Gram Panchayats regarding their development, good governance, service delivery, socio-economic progress, and performance aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By analyzing data from lakhs of Gram Panchayats nationwide, the platform plays a crucial role in making policy formulation and development schemes more effective.
