Pathankot espionage case widens: Police nab 3 more for passing military intel to Pakistan
Five arrests so far; two more in jail, one absconding. Hardeep allegedly hid his brother’s phone to destroy evidence
Pathankot (The Uttam Hindu): Pathankot Police has achieved another major success in the case of sending highly sensitive and confidential information of the Indian Army and paramilitary forces to handlers based in Pakistan through CCTV. In a major crackdown on this dangerous espionage network, the police arrested three more accused from Gurdaspur late Sunday night. Investigations have revealed that all these accused were in direct contact with anti-national forces and the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and were playing a major role in compromising the security of the country.
The mastermind's brother had hatched a conspiracy to escape by hiding his mobile phone
One of the three arrested accused has been identified as Hardeep Singh. Hardeep is the real brother of Baljit Singh alias Bitu, the main accused in this entire espionage scandal, whom the police have already arrested. Police investigations have revealed that Hardeep hid his brother's mobile phone to destroy evidence and protect his brother. He tried his best to evade the police, but the vigilance of the investigating agencies proved futile, and ultimately, he too ended up behind bars.
Five members of the espionage network have been arrested so far
In addition to Hardeep Singh, police have arrested two other suspects, also residents of Gurdaspur, who are believed to be key figures in the nexus. According to officials, the police have so far arrested five people in this highly serious case involving the country's internal security. Two other suspects linked to this network are already serving jail sentences, while one remains at large. Police teams are continuously raiding potential hideouts in search of the absconding suspect.
