Devotion Turns to Tragedy: Pickup from Mata Naina Devi Falls into Canal in Ludhiana, 4 Dead, 2 Missing

Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): A major road accident took place on Jagera Canal Bridge (Malerkotla Road) in Ludhiana district of Punjab late on Sunday night. A Mahindra pickup vehicle full of devotees returning after visiting Mata Naina Devi fell into the canal. 4 people including 2 children died in the accident, while 2 people are still missing. About 22 people were rescued and taken out.
Tragic accident in Ludhiana: Pickup vehicle returning from Mata Naina Devi fell into the canal, 4 dead, 2 missing : According to information, there were 24 to 26 people in the vehicle. The vehicle was overloaded and while overtaking it lost its balance, due to which the pickup fell straight into the canal. The deceased have been identified as Jarnail Singh (52), Manjeet Kaur (58), Sukhman Kaur (one and a half years), Akashdeep Singh (8). All the deceased were residents of village Mankwal. Their bodies were brought to the Ludhiana Civil Hospital at around 2 am.
The injured include Sarabjit Kaur, Surinder Singh, Jaswinder Kaur, Sarabjit Kaur, Swarnjit Kaur, Bhag Singh, Kaka Singh, Kamaljit Kaur and Sandeep Kumar. All of them are residents of Hussainpura village. 2 people are missing, for whose search the rescue operation continued till late night.
As soon as the incident was reported, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, SSP Jyoti Yadav and MLA Manvinder Singh Gyaspura reached the spot. DC Himanshu Jain said, "There were 24 people in the vehicle. 22 people have been rescued safely. Search operation is underway to find the missing people. All hospitals and administrative teams have been alerted."
