Punjab (The Uttam Hindu): In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party has removed a sitting mayor from the party after his name surfaced in a controversy linked to an opium case. The issue began when a woman accused in an opium-related investigation was reportedly being protected by local political influence. Soon after, a video went viral in which the woman was seen counting bundles of cash while in custody.

The viral video created a massive uproar, raising serious questions about how the woman managed to handle money during an investigation and whether she was receiving protection. Allegations quickly emerged that the mayor had tried to help the woman avoid strict action. Facing public anger and internal pressure, AAP asked the mayor to resign and expelled him from the party.

Party leaders said the decision was made to maintain transparency and show that no leader would be allowed to misuse their position. Police have now launched a full investigation into the opium case, the woman’s activities, and any political involvement linked to her protection.
