Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): AAP MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura received a major blow from the Punjab and Haryana High Court today. The MLA had approached the High Court seeking a stay on his four-year sentence, but the court declined to grant a stay. The court stated that since no action has yet been initiated to revoke his assembly membership, there appears to be no need for immediate intervention at this time.

MLA Lalpura's lawyer argued that if the sentence wasn't stayed, his assembly membership would automatically be revoked, requiring fresh elections in his constituency. The court sharply questioned why the haste when such steps as revocation hadn't been taken. The High Court adjourned the case for the next month and directed the state government to present the entire case record to the court on the next date.
