Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In a move aimed at easing the financial burden on parents amid rising costs, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has announced a major decision for the academic session 2026–27. Students from Classes 1 to 12 studying in all affiliated and associated schools will now receive textbooks directly through their schools.

According to the Board, the primary objective of this initiative is to reduce the growing financial pressure on parents. Under the new system, students will receive a direct 15 percent discount on textbooks, making them more affordable.

Schools must submit book demand online

The Board has instructed schools to register their class-wise and subject-wise book requirements in advance. A dedicated web portal has been created on the official PSEB website for this purpose. Schools can log in and submit the required number of books through the “Book Demand” page by March 15, 2026.

PSEB has clarified that timely submission of demand is mandatory to ensure smooth distribution before the start of the academic session.

New session begins from April 1

The new academic session will commence on April 1. The Board has directed all affiliated and associated schools to complete the process within the stipulated timeline.

The move is expected to address concerns regarding high textbook prices charged by private schools. However, students in government schools will continue to receive textbooks free of cost as before.

The Board believes that this centralized system will enhance transparency, provide financial relief to parents, and streamline the book distribution process.
