Punjab sarpanch targeted: Gunmen in fortuner open fire, state on edge again

Moga (The Uttam Hindu) : A sensational incident of firing occurred in broad daylight on Friday in Bagha Purana town of Moga district, Punjab. Happy, the current village head of Dohdar village, was seriously injured in the attack. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors describe his condition as critical.

According to reports, some unidentified assailants arrived in a Fortuner car and suddenly fired several shots at Sarpanch Happy. The accused fled the scene after committing the crime. Sarpanch Happy was seriously injured by the gunfire.

SSP reached the spot and took stock of the situation. As soon as the information about the incident was received, senior police officers reached the spot. Moga SSP inspected the spot and directed police teams to investigate the matter. Police have blocked the entire area and a search has been launched for the absconding attackers. Initial investigation suggests that this case is related to an old mutual rivalry. Police are also examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the accused.

Following this incident, which took place in broad daylight, panic has gripped Bagha Purana and surrounding areas. Police say they will soon identify and arrest the accused.
