After 78 Years: Punjab Government Fulfills Demand, Declares July 31 as Holiday

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The Punjab government has declared a public holiday on Thursday, July 31 in the state. This announcement was made by Cabinet Minister Aman Arora during a press conference at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh on Tuesday. With this decision, the government has also fulfilled a 78-year-old demand.
Giving information, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said that July 31 is the martyrdom day of the great freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh. On this occasion, government offices, schools, colleges and other institutions will remain closed across Punjab. He clarified that although this holiday was already recorded as a reserved holiday in the calendar of the year 2025, but now the government has declared it as a public holiday for all.
MLA from Jalalabad Goldy Kamboj, who was present on the occasion, welcomed the government's decision. He said that this was a 78-year-old demand of the Kamboj community, which has been fulfilled by the AAP government. He thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and said that there is a wave of happiness in the community due to the announcement of this gazetted holiday.
Aman Arora also informed that the Punjab government has decided to name the road from Bhawanigarh to Sunam, Bhikhi and Kot Shamir after Shaheed Udham Singh. On July 31, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will formally inaugurate this road. BC Commission Chairman Malkit Singh Thind was also present in this press conference.
