
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): To ensure teachers can focus on their core responsibilities, Punjab CM S. Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that 1,920 campus managers have been appointed. As part of the "Education Revolution" launched in 2022, the state is taking steps to help students achieve their dreams. The Punjab government has tied up with 11T Madras-Pravartak to provide free online training to over 5,000 teachers as career mentors.
This program includes training in foundational career counselling, classroom skills, one-on-one guidance, and access to digital resources on in-demand careers. Additionally, the School Education Department is offering a free Google certification program to 25,000 teachers to enhance digital literacy and skills, aligning with global standards.
Highlighting the government's focus on quality teacher training, CM S.Bhagwant Singh Mann said, "234 principals and education officers have received world-class training in Singapore, 152 head teachers have received advanced coaching at 11M Ahmedabad, and 144 primary teachers have undergone special training at Turku University in Finland."
The Chief Minister said that to enable teachers to focus on their primary duties, 1,920 campus managers have been appointed, adding that to help the children of Punjab soar high and fulfill their dreams, an "Education Revolution" was launched in 2022.
CM S. Bhagwant Mann paid tribute to teachers, saying, "By honouring our teachers, we've acknowledged their role as nation builders. The word 'Guru' originates from 'Gu' (darkness) and 'Ru t (remover) — it means the one who removes darkness. A teacher's duty is to illuminate young minds with knowledge."
Under Punjab's "Education Revolution", 118 Schools of Eminence have been set up with Q31.74 crore invested so far, said CM S. Bhagwant Mann. These schools offer free uniforms, bus services for girls, and coaching for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and CLAT. Results are pouring in — 265 students from these schools and other government schools cleared JEE Mains, 44 qualified JEE Advanced, and 848 made it through NEET.
The CM envisioned that these schools will serve as "temples of the modern era," illuminating the lives of thousands of students. Now students from private schools are seeking admission into these Schools of Eminence, reflecting the success of this model, the CM said.
The Chief Minister said that the concept of Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) has also been introduced and has received overwhelming support from parents. He said that Punjab currently has 19,200 government schools, and nearly 25 lakh parents have participated in PTMs.
