Punjab MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra on the run: Rape accused flees to Australia, police hunt continues

Patiala (The Uttam Hindu): Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from the Sanaur assembly constituency in Punjab's Patiala district, has fled the country after being named in a rape case. He has reached Australia. Punjab police had been searching for him for nearly two months in connection with the case.
An interview with Pathanmajra was uploaded to social media on November 7th, reportedly recorded by a private channel. In the interview, the MLA dismissed the case against him as "false" and leveled harsh accusations against the Punjab government. He stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has no say in Punjab's issues. Mann does whatever AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal tells him. MLAs have no standing in the government. The government has done all this to suppress their voices.
Pathanmajra is facing rape charges. Police were searching for him in connection with this case. Now, after news of his arrival in Australia surfaced, the matter has taken on a political twist. In an interview, the MLA said that the case filed against him is a "conspiracy by the ruling party to suppress his voice."
A rape case was registered against Pathan Majra two months ago at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala. When a Patiala police team went to Dabri village in Karnal, Haryana, to arrest the MLA, Pathan Majra managed to escape.
