Mohali/Rupnagar (The Uttam Hindu): A young Punjab Police constable has made the state proud by earning a place in the Indian Air Force. Gursimran Singh Bains, a 22-year-old constable posted in Mohali, has been selected as a Flying Officer in the IAF. Originally from Rupnagar (Ropar), Gursimran balanced his tough police duty with studies and cleared the SSB interview on his fourth attempt.

Gursimran joined the Punjab Police in August 2022. Even after wearing the uniform, he continued to work toward his dream of becoming an officer. He completed his BA degree through distance education from Panjab University, Chandigarh, while also preparing online for competitive exams. His dedication paid off, and he will now serve the nation in the Indian Air Force.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav congratulated him for his achievement. He said, “Gursimran has shown that with hard work, focus, and determination, anyone can reach great heights. His journey proves that discipline and willpower can overcome any challenge.” The DGP also encouraged young police personnel to take inspiration from him and aim higher.

This is not the first time Punjab Police personnel have achieved such a milestone. Earlier, in March 2024, constables Anmol Sharma and Lovepreet Singh were selected as commissioned officers in the Indian Army after clearing the CDS exam while serving in the department.

Social media users are also praising Gursimran’s success. A user named Raghu Pune commented, “The SSB selection process is extremely tough. Mentoring helps, but the candidate must have the capability within. Welcome to the blue skies.”
