Punjab receives major boost from Centre, two new Railway Overbridges approved in Doraha and Dhuri; ₹124 crore sanctioned

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The Union Ministry of Railways has given final approval to two important Railway Overbridge (ROB) projects in Punjab, providing major relief to residents. The long-pending projects in Doraha and Dhuri (Bathinda section) are expected to ease traffic congestion and eliminate frequent jams at railway crossings. The Central Government has sanctioned a total budget of ₹124 crore for these projects, accelerating infrastructure development in the state.
According to information released by the Railways, the ROB at Doraha will be constructed near Level Crossing No. 164-A at an estimated cost of ₹70 crore. Meanwhile, an ROB costing ₹54 crore will be built at Dhuri under the Bathinda section, located at a non-level crossing (GAD). Once completed, these overbridges will not only save commuters valuable time but also significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
Railway Minister highlights long-pending public demand
Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu welcomed the approval of both projects and said they were extremely important in public interest. He stated that due to political hurdles, these projects had remained stalled for years despite repeated demands. Bittu added that local residents had been protesting and demanding the construction of these overbridges for a long time. With the Centre approving the projects, construction work at both locations will begin soon, bringing long-awaited relief to the people of Punjab.
