Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu) : In response to the increasing cold and dense fog in Punjab, the state government has decided to extend all school holidays. All government, aided, recognized, and private schools in the state will reopen on January 8th. This announcement was made by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.

The Education Minister, sharing information on the social media platform X, stated that this decision was made under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, prioritizing the health and safety of children and school staff. He wrote that due to the increasing fog and cold in the state, all schools will remain closed until January 7th, and regular classes will resume on January 8th.

More than 3.5 million students will benefit

Punjab currently operates over 19,000 government schools, enrolling over 3.5 million students. The Meteorological Department has already warned that the cold may intensify after January 1st, so the Education Department is reluctant to take any risks.

Holidays are included in the academic calendar

The Education Department has clarified that the extended holidays are part of the annual academic calendar. Furthermore, the monthly syllabus has been determined based on this, so that studies are not affected once schools reopen. The government has warned that strict action will be taken against any private school that does not comply with government orders.
