Punjabi youth shot dead in Canada, car set ablaze in suspected targeted killing

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A young man of Punjabi descent was shot and killed in Burnaby, Canada. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on January 22, 2026. According to police, the young man was taken to the hospital after being shot, but he died. The deceased has been identified as Dilraj Singh Gill (28).
A burning car was found some time later on Buxton Street, which police are linking to this incident. Police believe this may be a targeted killing or a case of gang warfare. The case is being investigated by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
Police have appealed to the public if they saw anything, or have dashcam/CCTV video, around Canada Way or Buxton Street between 4:30 and 6:30 pm on January 22nd. It should be noted that just a few days ago, Amanpreet, a young woman from Sangrur, Punjab, who had moved to Canada to provide a better life for her family was murdered by his friend Manpreet Singh.
