Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has reached Punjab to visit the flood affected areas. After reaching Amritsar airport he reached Ghonewal village. Here he met the flood affected people and understood their pain.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and leader of opposition in the assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa are also present with Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi will also visit Gurdaspur and Pathankot. However, PM Narendra Modi had visited Punjab 5 days ago. He had announced to give Rs 1600 crore to Punjab in view of the situation.

Let us tell you that 2 thousand 97 villages in 23 districts have been affected by the floods in Punjab. Crops have been submerged in about 1 lakh 91 thousand 926 hectares. 52 people have died in 15 districts. So far more than 3 lakh 88 thousand 92 people have been affected. Relief operations are still being carried out by the administration and relief agencies.
