Case registered for demanding ransom of crores in the name of ED and the Home Minister, one arrested

Sri Muktsar Sahib (The Uttam Hindu): On the complaint of the owner of the nationally renowned Satia Paper Mill, the Muktsar Police have registered a case after a lengthy investigation against a former officer of the mill and some other individuals for allegedly blackmailing and demanding ransom amounting to crores of rupees in the name of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The case has been registered against two persons Harmander Singh, son of Bali Singh, resident of Tarn Taran Nagar, Street No. 02, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and one Jyoti Satvant Sharma, son of Jaswinder Kumar, from Ludhiana.
According to information received, a case had earlier also been registered on 27 May 2025 against Harmander Singh, son of Bali Singh, on the complaint of Satia Paper Mill owner Ajay Satia and his son Chirag Satia, for stealing company data and blackmailing. That case was pending on bail in the High Court.
Now, Harmander Singh and Satvant Sharma together started blackmailing the Satia family. As per the police investigation, notices were allegedly going to be issued in connection with complaints filed with the ED and other departments. The accused demanded a settlement from the Satia family, claiming that if they wanted to avoid these notices and departmental action, they would have to pay. For this settlement, a demand of ₹50 crore per department was made.
Harmander Singh also claimed that he had direct communication with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders. To prove his threat, he even sent registered summons purportedly issued by the ED against the Satia family. However, when officials of the Satia company contacted the ED’s New Delhi office, it was found that the summons were fake. The ED has initiated action in this regard.
On the complaint filed by Dr. Ajay Satia, the police conducted a detailed investigation and, after consulting the government prosecutor, registered a case against Harmander Singh and Satvant Sharma. According to police officials, significant developments are expected in this case.
