Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): Fortis Superspeciality Hospital, Jalandhar, achieved a major milestone in organ transplantation with the region’s first-ever lung donation, along with the successful donation of a liver and two kidneys through deceased multi-organ donation.

The lungs were airlifted to Artemis Hospital, Gurugram, by the Artemis Transplant Team, while the liver was transported to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. Both kidneys were successfully transplanted into a 25-year-old patient at Fortis Jalandhar, giving a new lease of life.

The complex organ retrieval and dual kidney transplantation were performed by Dr. Onkar Singh and Dr. Harpreet Singh from the Department of Advanced Renal Sciences, Transplantation & Robotic Uro-Cancer Surgery. Transplant nephrology care was provided by Dr. Rajiv Bhatia and Dr. Ajay Marwaha.

The achievement was made possible due to exceptional coordination between the District Administration, Jalandhar Police, Civil Surgeon Office, SOTTO Punjab, ROTTO North and NOTTO along with dedicated hospital teams from Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Transplant Surgery, Critical Care and Transplant Coordination departments. Green corridors were successfully created from Jalandhar to Ludhiana and Amritsar, ensuring timely transport of organs.

Hospital authorities paid a heartfelt tribute to the donor family, stating that their courageous and compassionate decision saved many lives and set an inspiring example for society.
