Rs 50 Lakh Loan, Deported from US, Now Missing: Ludhiana Man's Mysterious Case

Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): A 29-year-old man, Amritpal Singh, a resident of Raja Garden in Ludhiana, Punjab, has gone missing under mysterious circumstances after being deported from the US in April 2025. Amritpal's brother, Gurjeet Singh, filed a complaint with the police after an extensive search, but it took over two months for the police to register a case.
According to Gurjeet, Amritpal had borrowed Rs 50 lakh to travel to the US through a Jalandhar-based travel agent in 2023. He reached the US via the "Dunki" route and worked at a store. However, during a crackdown on illegal immigrants in June 2024, Amritpal was caught by the US Immigration Department and deported.
Amritpal landed at Delhi Airport on April 9, 2025, but didn't reach home. His family later found that he had taken a room in a hotel near DMC Hospital in Ludhiana on April 11. CCTV footage confirmed his presence in the hotel and later at a mobile shop in Ghumar Mandi, where he sold his iPhone and bought a cheaper phone.
Gurjeet alleged that despite lodging complaints with the police on April 14 and April 29, the case wasn't registered until now. The police told him that Amritpal's new phone was put under surveillance, but no new SIM was inserted.
The family suspects that Amritpal might be suffering from depression due to his deportation and may have taken a wrong step or been held hostage by unknown persons. They have demanded an FIR against the travel agent and urged the police to speed up the investigation to trace Amritpal.
