Speeding Volvo bus from Amritsar crashes into broken-down truck in Sonipat, conductor killed

Sonipat (The Uttam Hindu): A horrific road accident occurred early Saturday on the Delhi–Panipat National Highway-44, leaving one person dead and several injured. A private Volvo bus travelling from Amritsar to Delhi rammed into a stationary truck near the Rai Flyover area. The powerful collision turned a routine journey into tragedy, killing the bus conductor on the spot and injuring multiple passengers, including the driver.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus had departed from Amritsar late Friday night and was travelling at high speed on the highway. In the early morning hours, the driver reportedly failed to notice a truck parked on the road ahead, resulting in a violent rear-end collision. The front portion of the bus was badly damaged in the impact, leading to the conductor’s death and serious injuries to several passengers.
After the accident, panic spread among passengers as several people became trapped between seats. Local residents and rescue teams reached the scene quickly and evacuated the injured by breaking the bus windows. Videos from the site showed frightened passengers trying to escape from the damaged vehicle.
The accident caused heavy traffic congestion on the busy national highway. Police from Rai police station arrived soon after receiving information and launched rescue operations with the help of local residents.
All injured passengers were shifted to Sonipat Civil Hospital for treatment. After initial medical care, the critically injured bus driver was referred to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences Rohtak for advanced treatment.
Police are working to remove the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic movement, while further investigation into the accident is underway.
