Punjab Police Detain BJP State President Sunil Jakhar, Protests Erupt

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Police has taken the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab unit president Sunil Jakhar into custody. Sunil Jakhar had come to Raipur village in Fazilka to inform people about the central government's Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, Ayushman Card scheme, Ration Card scheme and other schemes.
BJP state president Sunil Jakhar had announced on Thursday that he would visit this village in Baluan area. In this sequence, he left for Raipur village on Friday. However, he was stopped by the police on the Abohar-Dabwali National Highway. Angered by this, BJP workers staged a sit-in protest. Later, the police took Sunil Jakhar into custody. Before being taken into custody, Sunil Jakhar spoke to the media. He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party is a dictatorial party, which is preventing BJP from organizing camps to spread awareness about the policies of the central government.
Jakhar said that the number of beneficiaries taking advantage of the Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in Punjab was 22 lakh before 2022, which has now come down to just eight and a half lakh in 2024-25. He further said, "I am not afraid of arrest. We are against the government that is snatching the rights of the poor, farmers and weaker sections." Earlier, the Punjab Police had also detained BJP district president Kaka Kamboj and Baluana assembly constituency coordinator Vandana Sagwan. Meanwhile, BJP workers have demonstrated in Moga, Punjab. The police stopped and drove away the protesters at many places, while at many places when the workers did not move, they were taken into custody.
