Taran (The Uttam Hindu): Counting of votes for the assembly by-election in Punjab's Tarn Taran district began on Friday. The election results are being seen as a key indicator for the 2027 state elections. Counting began at 8 a.m. on November 14 at Mai Bhago International College of Nursing, Piddi.


The main contenders in the by-election are Harmeet Singh Sandhu of the Aam Aadmi Party, Harjeet Singh Sandhu of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa of the Shiromani Akali Dal and Karanbir Singh Burj of the Congress. Counting will take place in 16 rounds, of which two have already been completed.


In the second round, Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa has a lead of 1,480 votes. AAP's Harmeet Singh Sandhu is in second place, with Congress in third. The outcome will be clear by 11 a.m. Voting took place here on November 11th, with a voter turnout of 60.95%. In the last assembly elections (2022), this seat saw a voter turnout of 65.81%, and AAP won the election.
