Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology Hosts Convocation 2025; Air Chief Marshal AP Singh Graces the Ceremony as Chief Guest

Patiala(The Uttam Hindu):The Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) hosted its Convocation 2025, from October 15 to 17, marking a momentous occasion that honored the academic accomplishments and perseverance of its graduating students.
The Convocation was graced by the esteemed presence of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, PVSM, AVSM and Mrs. Sarita Singh, President, Air Force Family Welfare Association.
At the Convocation, a total of 3,104 degrees were awarded to the students, comprising 2,375 students from BE/BTech, 32 from BE-MBA, 82 from Ph.D., 175 from ME/MTech, 53 from M.Sc., 68 from MCA, 200 from MBA, 46 from MA (Psychology), 42 from BA/BBA/BSc and 31 from BA/BBA/BSc Hons. These degrees encompassed a wide range of disciplines and specializations offered in various fields, including Engineering, Sciences, Management, Social Sciences and Humanities and Liberal Arts.
In his address, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh lauded TIET’s leadership in technological innovation and its contribution to nation-building through education. Reflecting on his experience in the Indian Air Force, he spoke about the values of service, discipline, and responsibility, urging students to pursue excellence with integrity and to dedicate their success to the betterment of society and the nation.
Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Vederah, Chancellor, TIET, emphasized the institute’s commitment to innovation and academic excellence. “Thapar Institute has continued to evolve through its focus on research, student-centric learning, and the establishment of Centres of Excellence that strengthen its position as a leading research institution,” he said, encouraging graduates to uphold sincerity, perseverance, and credibility as lifelong virtues.
In his address, Professor Padmakumar Nair, Vice Chancellor, TIET, congratulated the graduates, saying, “I commend all degree recipients on their successful academic journey and those who have received medals and awards for their outstanding performance.” He emphasized the importance of continuous learning with humility, compassionate reframing, and being a good human being first and foremost, while always striving to be an impactful professional.
On the opening day of the Convocation, 44 students were honouredwith medals/awards for their exceptional performance. This included 35 institute medals in recognition of exemplary academic achievements, and the following key medals/awards:
• President’s Medal: Mr. Chiranjiv Singh Malhi and Mr. Ishan Agarwal for achieving the highest CGPA in the BE/BTech final year.
• S. Ranbir Singh Gold Medal: Mr. Udit Munjal, as the All-Round Best Student for 2024-2025.
• Prof. V. Rajaraman Computer Science & Engineering Award: Mr. Chiranjiv Singh Malhi for securing the highest CGPA of 9.5 in BE Computer Science & Engineering.
• S. Ram S. Sidhu Memorial Medal: Mr. Namanbeer Maini was bestowed with the medal.
• Governor’s Medal: Ms. Mitali Bansal, Ms. Adya Singh, and Ms. Aditi bagged the Governor’s medal.
The convocation was graced by a distinguished group of guest speakers and proud alumni of Thapar Institute, including Rajesh Uppal (Strategic Advisor & Board Member, Suzuki Motors), Anshul Khandelwal (Strategic Operating Advisor, Ola Group), Anirudh Koul (Senior Manager, Gen-AI Scientist, Pinterest), Jaswinder Sachdeva (Senior Technical Director, NIC Delhi), Ritika Gupta (Founder, Global Distribution Company), Amandeep Gujral (Director – Products, Perfios), Ashwinder Singh (VP, Suzuki Motors), Ankush Arora (CEO, Al-Mansour Automotive), Rajanvir Singh Kapur, IAS (Senior Special Secretary, Department of Sundarban Affairs), Rajan Mittal (Head – Business Excellence, Adani Energy Solutions), and Surbhi Garg, IRS (Government of India).The occasion also witnessed the gracious presence of a distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Vivek Lal (Director, PGI, Chandigarh).
